MSE National Basketball Camp Day 1

Day 1– At 8:30 am, campers and parents from around the world flooded the Bronx Fordham University gym.

Around 9:00 am a gentleman gave prayer and at 9:10 am, Ms. Crosby, soulfully performed the National Anthem, Star Bangled Banner.

By 9:30 am, the players quickly spun into drills.

Kids shouted  “five in the morning!” whenever the camp instructor asked “What time is it?”

After stretching and conditioning, campers ran laps, while MSE handed out Jersey’s – starting with the 4th graders.

We saw a lot of rising talent and action packed games.  Check out this video of day 1 at camp envy.

Tried to tell people Indiana reps the best last year at every Nations from 2nd to 8th had atleast one team in a final for except 7th. Need more then a youtube video to call yourself the best! Indiana with the George Hill Rising Stars, Indy Rising Stars, and Indy Hoosiers have the best in the Nation. You don’t believe it? Come get some. Check the resume!

MSE, Jordan is having a GREAT time at camp, already talking about coming back next year. It’s not just the drills and the games or the motivating speakers. It’s a chance to meet up with kids that he has watched and who have watched him. Jordan has met other kids that inspire him and has been humbled by those who have told him that he has inspired them. This is a wonderful opportunity and my husband (Craig) and older son (Kyle) who was also impressed by the camp! This is a memory that Jordan will have forever! He will be back. In Jordan’s words “we are all just regular kids, who happen to love the game of basketball” “I have made friends that I will keep in touch with for a long time”. Thank you MSE, parents, coaching staff and players!

A wonderful event. The kids were awesome. I loved watching them play each other .The drills were right on time. Kids came from all over the United States, and were given the opportunity to meet young adults like themselves. Our future NBA players in the making. Young men and women good luck. I look forward to participating in your summer classic and playing on the court Madison Square Garden.

    • Rick says:

      Marzetta,
I like how you keep it positive! I was at the camp and have the same take away from the event that you did. While some may come on and post what kid is better than the other, the focus and true appreciation of the two day event was being able to witness a great group of kids from 4th – 8th grade getting together doing something they all enjoy. Having parental support and encouragement; being able to meet up with other kids from different states and play the game of basketball, to appreciate and respect each others talents not focusing on who will come out of it ranked or not! It was a great event.

      • Daniel says:

@ jordan, marzetta & rick..I agree with you 100 percent I was at the camp & I had the opportunity to watch some of the top 4th – 8th graders in the country. I am familiar with a lot of them because I coach 12u aau & I follow this website. It really doesn’t matter about who has the highest rankings at this age its about getting better & playing against quality competition & I think a lot of people get that mixed up. 4th graders can’t be drafted people..so if little timmy is better than little james it really doesn’t matter right now. See what happens when they grow, mature, and get old enough to actually rank.

@ indys finest..comments like these are what I’m talking about. It makes me sick to hear people hate on young kids. These young men & ladies work hard on their game and a lot of them (like the 4th graders you speak of) are not old enough to defend themselves. Why do people have to hate on certain kids to make other kids look better? Sounds like jealous parents to me.

Great job to all the young men & women @ mse this weekend. Keep working hard. You are our future.

  4. Mike says:

Why everyone mad at Indy Finest? they gave some numbers about the success from the state, shoutouts to some kids doing good, didnt hate on any kid, and said something that makes sence. Go to Youtube and see how many people in Middle School have YouTube videos. Then see how many of those kids actually had success in nationals or competes in big tournaments. You talk about how its silly to rank kids, but that is what this website does. You complain about negativety or hating but you read articles tabbing a kid “The best 2nd grader in the Nation” or hyping a kindergartner. So I guess its negative to give 3 kids props for doing good? Its negative to point out YouTube videos are pointless when you aint doing it on big stages. I am with you Indy Finest, I think we need to work with Middle school elite and try to get the top 10 kids from each class from Indiana. LETS GET IT. MSE HELP, HELP what do we need to do to guarantee INDIANA GETS 10 KIDS PER CLASS AT NEXT CAMP??? Hit me on the email!!! Can you hold a camp in the MIDWEST?

  5. Marcus says:

@Leroy.. hahah shameless plug.. that was funny. I agree with you for real. Kids are to young to be ranked. I think it actually hurts relationships, causes friction and all but we all know it is what it is.

  6. Parent says:

I attend the MSE and was able to see some young talent from across the country. Met some great parents that are dedicated to giving their child the opportunity of a life time that they will always remember. The kids all seem to have enjoyed themselves and seen that they have room for improvement after leaving the camp. So parents keep motivating and challengeing your child to be the best that they can be and believe me we all have seen some future stars at the MSE camp. Parents give yourself a pat on the back for making it happen.

  7. Frank Murphy says:

Sean looks like a great player! Great video on YouTube! Love it!

  8. baller mom says:

    well said LeRoy, well said…

  9. BIG G says:

HAS ANYONE ON THIS WEBSITE HEARD OF A 5TH GRADER NAMED CAMERON THOMPSON? HE’S THE POINT GUARD FOR OUR LADY OF ANGELES IN REGO PARK QUEENS NEW YORK (CYO TEAM)I HAVE NO IDEA IF OR WHO HIS AAU TEAM IS, BUT ONE THING I DO KNOW IS THAT THIS KID IS THE NEXT KENNY ANDERSON OUT OF NYC. CAN SOMEONE ON THIS SITE LOOK INTO HIM, TRUST ME HIS GAME IS SERIOUS I DON’T EVEN GOTTA SEE THESE OTHER 5TH GRADERS YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT AND I KNOW THIS KID IS ON OR BETTER THAN MOST OF THEM.

  10. Kyle Montgomery says:

I am 4th grader Jordan Montgomery’s older brother Kyle & I was given the opportunity to help out with the camp last weekend. I was able to view all age groups & the group that impressed me most as a whole were the 4th graders. There were some 5th, 6th, & 7th grade standouts but from what I saw the 2019 class is the class to watch out for.

These kids have varsity/college level skills already at the age of 9 & 10. Some of the gameplay was a little rocky due to the kids trying to figure out the whole exposure camp type style. A lot of that gets better with maturity. However, you could really see that the kids all shared a common trait, the love of the game. I was even watching some one on one battles during the lunch breaks (when kids are just having fun; no pressure) and these kids are Ballers!

My little brother Jordan had a great time! Not only was he able to compete with some of the best 4th graders in the country, he was able to bond & build relationships with young men that share the love & drive for the game of basketball. I was able to talk to a lot of the young men & their parents and they all seemed like good people that put in hard work when it comes to the game they love.

I always tell Jordan that no matter how hard you work there is somebody out there working just as hard or harder. He has never been a kid that has settled in just being good. He wants to be great. In order to be great you have to compete against the best & I think this camp was a step in that direction.

I just hope all the kids had a good time & were able to make memories like the ones my family & I did. On the plane back to California Jordan shared with me countless stories about his new friends and a lot of the jokes & stories they shared while at camp. He couldn’t wait to get home & look up his friend Sean Q. on youtube or to email some others he met last weekend. And that’s what it is about.

Great job to all the young men this year it was a pleasure meeting you & it was great meeting all the parents as well. Keep working hard and I am sure we will definitely be seeing this group of little phenoms for many years to come. Keep those grades right & love God.

    Kyle Montgomery
(Brother of 4th grader Jordan Montgomery, California)
