The Future Is Here
We asked Lloyd if he wanted to play up several grades and he emphatically said, “yes.”
Ramel Lloyd Jr. is a fifth grade west coast star athlete, who stood out amongst his peers at the celebrated MSE Father’s Day Challenge Camp this past June in Raleigh, North Carolina. He even traveled all the way from Los Angeles, California to make his presence felt during a tough weekend of competition.
Lloyd had a big name coming into camp and a bigger reputation as the nation’s top ranked player for class of 2022. Though it was our first time watching him play live, he overcame the challenge as expected.
He’s tall, strong, smart and skillful. He did it all from shot-blocking to rebounding to passing to scoring to ball-handling to defending. The talented big guard established position down low by boxing out. For example, he aggressively snatched a defensive rebound and quickly threw an outlet pass. His IQ and court-vision was on full display.
Lloyd was equally effective and impressive in the backcourt. He attacked gaps in the lane to score or attempted a deep three pointer. Ofttimes he penetrated the paint zipping no-look passes. He was a showman rotating the ball as well as moving without it.
Young Lloyd was a joy to capture, but has awhile before reaching his father’s skill level. Then again, junior is just eleven years old. He’ll grow to be everything that we imagined, if he continues working hard…sky’s the limit.
